COMPILED WITH CONTEXT
One topic. A connected explanation.
This reference organizes admitted material around mechanisms, then links the original evidence. Consolidation preserves the prerequisites, version boundaries, and citations needed to use a technique responsibly.
How material enters the reference
Sources are reviewed individually. Explicitly licensed material can contribute selected sections with attribution. Restricted or unclear-license sources contribute citations and independently written explanations; their prose, screenshots, and complete solve scripts are not mirrored.
Raw fetched material stays outside the published site. Only reviewed Markdown enters the article collection. Imported scripts are never executed as part of reading or building the reference.
What consolidation means here
- Source identity: canonical URLs and pinned revisions identify the evidence; tracking parameters do not create a new source.
- Exact repeated content: substantive repeated blocks are represented once while preserving their citations and meaningful code literals.
- Technique overlap: editorial review connects equivalent explanations and retains distinct framework, allocator, and platform behavior.
Similarity identifies review candidates. It does not prove that two mechanisms are equivalent. These checks apply to the admitted corpus; they are not a claim to have deduplicated every online CTF resource.
Licenses and provenance
Application code is MIT. Original editorial content is by the CTF Docs contributors and licensed under CC BY 4.0. When reusing it, credit CTF Docs, link the article and license, and indicate changes. Imported sections retain their own cited licenses, which can differ from the surrounding article. Each article lists source IDs, original URLs, revision details when available, and a content license. The source directory records reuse decisions and review dates, and retains complete redistribution notices.

Counts are reviewed candidate excerpt blocks and fetched topic files from two pinned MIT repositories. License files are verified separately. They are not article counts or claims that the registry was fully imported. Unselected prose, linked articles, assets, and scripts are excluded by the explicit selection manifest.
The table counts fetched topic files and reviewed excerpt blocks. “Rejected candidate blocks” counts selected candidates rejected during review; zero does not mean that all upstream material was admitted. Unselected upstream prose, assets, and scripts are outside these totals.

Recorded editorial decisions
web/path-traversal
consolidate · One canonical page retains literal, encoded, and double-encoded separator variants as distinct examples.
web/sql-injection
retain-variants · MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle probes remain distinct because dialect is semantically significant.
web/server-side-request-forgery
retain-variants · Hostname, IPv6 and IPv4 loopback parsing are different checks; external redirect services excluded.
pwn/house-of-spirit
merge-exact-block · Identical size-field snippet shares both pinned citations; glibc 2.23 free and glibc 2.36 calloc/cache-state variants remain separate.

original-synthesis · Original mechanisms and examples cite primary documentation and reference-only sources; no restricted prose or full solve scripts mirrored.
